Osama Abdulrasol is componist, producer, qanunplayer en beeldend kunstenaar. Hij werd geboren in Babylon (Irak) en studeerde westerse muziek (klassieke gitaar) in het Verenigd Koninkrijk en Oosterse muziek (qanun of Arabisch lap harp) in Irak. Hij ontving de Belgische cultuurprijs 2013 - Gent. Naast een een aantal song schrijft hij muziek voor diverse projecten, voor film & theater. Hij arrangeerde en produceerde muziek voor verschillende muzikanten, al dan niet uitvorend, met verschillende achtergronden: Arabisch, Jazz, experimenteel, Indiase, Turkse bands en nog veel meer. Hij trad op en toerde bijna overal in de wereld met verschillende groepen, zoals het symfonisch orkest van Antwerpen (de Filharmonie) en het Vlaams Radio Orkest, beide onder leiding van Dirk Brossé, met Goran Bregovic, de Nederlandse Metropole Orkest, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui , Lucilla Galeazzi, Claron McFadden, Roby Lakatos, Assala Nasri, Jahida Wehbe, Tom Robinson, BJ Scott, Wannes Van de Velde, Luc de Vos, Dick Van der Harst, Waed Bou Hassoun, Arifa, Olla Vogala, Melike, Oblomow, Izaline Callister, Djamel, Nahdha, Mesopotamië, Weshm, Lula Pena, Elftwelvtrio, Ghade Shbeir, Woestijn 93, Les ballets C de la B en diverse andere groepen en theaterproducties.

Kortweg gewoon een straffe muzikant/componist, meer dan geschikt voor een residentie en dus nieuw werk.

Het nieuwe project probeert een brug te leggen over de gehele wereld vanuit Irak naar Brazilië over België en Nederland. Wat hebben we allemaal gemeenschappelijk tegenwoordig? We delen oorlogen, ellende, de zogenaamde "social media", enz ... mensen vergeten om de schoonheid van de natuur te delen, te genieten van elkanders gezelschap. In dit project plaatsen we het element plezier, liefde, geluk enz op de voorgrond. Hoewel er grote lacunes en verschillen zijn tussen de culturen van Irak, België of Brazilië; delen we toch samen de mensheid. Muziek is een ideale spiegel voor reflectie en maakt het mogelijk om samen te smelten tot een geheel. De essentie van een echte fusie ligt in het scheppen van een relatie in de tijd. Bruggen tussen culturen ontspringen niet op zomaar op vraag; er moet aan gewerkt worden. Bouwers van dienst zijn naast Osama de fantastische Nederlandse bassist Henk De Laat uit en de Belgische klassiek geschoolde zangeres Helena Schoeters. Op percussie verwelkomt de band de Braziliaan Renato Martins.

OSAMA'S VERHAAL
Osama Abdulrasol is een Iraakse Qanun speler, componist, producer en beeldend kunstenaar. Hij werd geboren in Babylon, als een afstammeling van een zeer religieuze familie. Omdat muziek verboden was thuis, Osama moest leren hoe je muziek af te spelen in het geheim tijdens zijn hele kindertijd. Geobsedeerd als hij was met muziek, begon hij vrijwel bestuderen - uit boeken, alleen in zijn geest. Tot hij Irak verliet als een volwassene, kon hij zelfs nooit veroorloven om een ​​muziekinstrument te kopen. Zijn vader nooit geweten dat Osama een professionele musician.In zijn honger naar muziek die hij ontdekte jazz was geworden. Toen hij ging naar Bagdad om te vragen over het in kleine muziekwinkels, het record verkoper gaf hem een ​​cassette met de titel 'Jazz' op het, geschreven in het Arabisch - zonder namen, of een titel. Het was 20 jaar later tijdens een concert in België, dat Osama zou beseffen dat het een opname van Toots Thielemans was.

Hij leerde deze ingewikkelde instrument bespelen allemaal zelf, en al snel werden ze onafscheidelijk. Hij vestigde zich als muzikant en begon zijn carrière als een qanun en componist.

Nodig Irak te verlaten, Osama kwam naar België. De culturele en muzikale diversiteit in Europa, met zo veel invloeden en mogelijkheden, opende een totaal nieuwe wereld voor hem, en al snel begon hij te werken met verschillende muzikale persoonlijkheden zoals Goran Bregovic, Claron McFadden, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Lucilla Galeazzi, Roby Lakatos , Assala Nasri, Lula Pena, Wannes Van de Velde en nog veel meer.

De jonge Iraakse jongen werd zo een kosmopolitische en speelt nu bijna overal in de wereld, zowel als solist en gast, en met zijn eigen ensembles. In 2013 werd hij bekroond met de Belgische - Gent Cultuurprijs voor zijn buitengewone muzikale persoonlijkheid en zijn culturele verworvenheden.

The new project tries to build a bridge across the globe from Iraq to Brazil passing Belgium & Holland. What do we share nowadays? We share wars, miseries, so called "social media" etc... people forget to share the beauty of nature, enjoying people's company. In this project we'll bring the element of fun, love, happiness & more. Although there are big gaps and differences in cultures of Iraq or Belgium or Brazil; yet we share together humanity; and music is the biggest mirror to reflect and fuse us together musically. The essence of true fusion lies in the building of a relationship over time. Bridges between cultures don't just spring up on demand; yet we need to build them. The builders are the great bass player Henk De Laat from the Netherlands and singer Helena Schoeters from Belgium.

FULL STORY
Osama Abdulrasol is an Iraqi Qanun player, composer, producer, and visual Artist. He was born in Babylon, as a descendant of a very religious family. Because music was forbidden at home, Osama had to learn how to play music in secret during his entire childhood. Obsessed as he was with music, he started studying it virtually - from books, only in his mind. Until he left Iraq as an adult, he could never even afford to buy a music instrument. His father never knew that Osama had become a professional musician.In his hunger for music he discovered jazz. When he went to Baghdad to ask about it in small music stores, the record seller gave him a cassette with the title 'Jazz' on it, written in Arabic - without names, or a title. It was 20 years later during a concert in Belgium, that Osama would realize that it was a recording of Toots Thielemans.

The young Osama played every instrument he could get his hands on: starting with accordion, going to violin, oud and guitar – playing classical music, folk, rock and heavy metal on them. Not satisfied by that, he learned to play the clarinet and the saxophone – at least, until his reeds were finished and he discovered that there were no places in Iraq where you could buy new reeds.
It was only when he left Iraq that he discovered the Arabic harp or qanun, one of the most ancient instruments. He learned to play this complicated instrument all by himself, and soon they became inseparable. He then settled down as a musician and started his career as a qanun player and composer.

Needing to leave Iraq, Osama came to Belgium. The cultural and musical diversity in Europe, with so many influences and possibilities, opened a totally new world for him, and very soon he started working with different musical personalities such as Goran Bregovic, Claron McFadden, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Lucilla Galeazzi, Roby Lakatos, Assala Nasri, Lula Pena, Wannes Van de Velde and many more.

The young Iraqi boy thus became a cosmopolitan and now plays almost everywhere in the world, both as a soloist and guest, and with his own ensembles. In 2013 he was awarded with the Belgian – Gent Cultural Prize for his extraordinary musical personality and his cultural achievements.
