Visuele partituren zijn een fascinerend fenomeen binnen de hedendaagse muziek. Ze kenden een grote bloei in de jaren '50 en '60 toen componisten als Iannis Xenakis en Cornelius Cardew zochten naar 'andere' manieren dan het traditionele notenschrift om muziek en klank te noteren, zoals lijnen, kleuren, vormen of teksten.

In het kader van 10 jaar JazzCase Neerpelt / Citadelic Gent nodigt Musica het contrabas-ensemble Bassss uit om enkele hedendaagse visuele partituren van Belgische componisten te interpreteren. Een bijzondere uitdaging, want de uitvoeringen vinden plaats tussen de bomen van Klankenbos. We nemen je mee op een boswandeling waarin de relatie tussen klank en kleur centraal staat, met jazzy interpretaties van een 'kleurenvierkant' van componist Thomas Smetryns en een 'rode lijn' van Maja Jantar.

(Enkel in Neerpelt) En passant stuit je ook op werk van leerlingen muziek & beeldende kunst van de Kunstacademie Noord-Limburg.

Als afsluiter zal contrabassist en beeldend kunstenaar Paul Van Gysegem een improvisatie brengen bij zijn eigen visuele partituren. Gegarandeerd een kleurrijke ervaring!

Visual scores are a fascinating phenomenon in contemporary music. They had a great bloom in the 1950s and 60s when composers like Iannis Xenakis and Cornelius Cardew searched for "different" ways than the traditional notebook to record music and sound, such as lines, colors, shapes or texts.

In the context of 10 years of JazzCase Neerpelt / Citadelic Gent, Musica invites the bass ensemble Bassss to interpret some contemporary visual scores of Belgian composers. A special challenge, because the performances take place between the trees of Klankenbos or the Citadel Park. We take you on a forest walk in which the relationship between sound and color is central, with jazzy interpretations of a "color square" by composer Thomas Smetryns and a "red line" of Maja Jantar.

(Only in Neerpelt) On the walk you will also bump into work of students music & visual arts of the Noord-Limburg Art Academy.

And finally bassist and visual artist Paul Van Gysegem will improvise on his own visual scores.
